The Bottom Line — Quick Answer

Living in London’s 2026 Halloween guide covers five London spots with confirmed 2026 dates, from free to $35 plus fees.

  • The big haunt: Return to the Abandoned Village at Fanshawe Pioneer Village, October 16 to 31. It is 14 and up, $30 to $35 plus tax and fees.
  • The big free day: Sunday, October 25 downtown. Candy Crawl, Coven Fest and gourd painting are all free, 12 to 6 PM.
  • Halloween itself: Saturday, October 31. The City sets no trick-or-treat hours. Sunset is about 6:15 PM. Porch light on means open.

Halloween is a Saturday this year. That has not happened since 2020.

So the kids get a full day, and the grown-ups get a real night out. The catch is that the good nights sell out early. Fanshawe Pioneer Village already calls its haunt a sell-out event. Downtown London has stacked five things onto one Sunday. We read every venue’s own page on September 28 and put it all here, prices included. It is part of our Living in London guides.

  • The short version.
  • Kids: Sunday, October 25 downtown is free. Pumpkins After Dark at Storybook Gardens is about $90 for a family of four.
  • Teens and adults: the Abandoned Village opens Friday, October 16. Fridays and Saturdays cost $5 more, and the venue calls the whole run a sell-out.
  • Date night: Eldon House runs four after-dark nights, $16 to $20, with a 12-plus rule.
  • Halloween itself: Saturday, October 31. The City sets no trick-or-treat hours. Sunset is about 6:15 PM. Porch light on means open.

The Halloween spots in London, closest first

Each one appears once. Scare level is marked on every entry.

Eldon House after dark

481 Ridout Street North — downtown, above the river

Eldon House is the oldest house still standing in London, on Ridout Street above the river. It is a museum by day. For four nights in October it runs after dark. The staff lean into the stories that come with a house this old. It is atmosphere and history, not a jump-scare maze.

What’s there: Curses, Crimes and Haunts, a 90-minute walking tour of downtown’s dark past. The Murderous Dr. Cream, a talk on the London doctor history calls Ontario’s Jack the Ripper. Specters and Spiritualism, three evenings inside the house on the last three nights of October. Spooky Gourd Painting for kids on the Candy Crawl Sunday.
Best for: couples, history fans, anyone who wants spooky without screaming.
Scare level: low. Stories, not scares. The three evening events are not suitable for children under 12.
Good to know: Curses, Crimes and Haunts is Sunday, October 4. Tours leave at 6:30 and 7:00 PM, $18 including HST. The Murderous Dr. Cream is Thursday, October 15, 7 to 9 PM, $20 including HST. Specters and Spiritualism runs Thursday, October 29 to Saturday, October 31. Each night is 7 to 10 PM, $16 including HST. Spooky Gourd Painting is Sunday, October 25, drop in between 12 and 3 PM, by donation. Eldon House is on eldonhouse.ca.

Dundas Place and Centennial Hall on the Halloween Sunday

Dundas Place and 550 Wellington Street — downtown

Downtown London has turned Sunday, October 25 into its Halloween day. It starts with kids trick-or-treating at downtown businesses and ends with a witch-themed night market. You can do the whole day on foot.

What’s there: the Downtown Candy Crawl, trick-or-treating at participating downtown shops. Coven Fest on the Marquee Block of Dundas Place. The Camhain Witch’s Veil Night Market at Centennial Hall. The Annual Giant Fall Book Sale, also at Centennial Hall, runs October 15 to 25, so it overlaps the day.
Best for: families in the afternoon, then friends and couples after dark.
Scare level: none. This is costumes and candy, not a haunt.
Good to know: Downtown Candy Crawl is Sunday, October 25, 12 to 3 PM, free. Coven Fest is 1 to 6 PM on Dundas Place, free. The Witch’s Veil Night Market is 6 to 11 PM at Centennial Hall, $5. Hallow’s Eve Extravaganza, a Wortley Pride fundraiser, is 7 to 11 PM at Studio Coffee, $10 and up, adults. Downtown London’s October calendar is on downtownlondon.ca.

Hyland Cinema and Horror at the Hyland

240 Wharncliffe Road South — Wortley Village

The Hyland is London’s independent cinema on Wharncliffe Road South. Every October it runs Horror at the Hyland, a month of horror classics on a real big screen. Seeing The Evil Dead with a full room on Halloween night beats watching it on a couch.

What’s there: ten horror screenings across October, mostly Friday nights at 9:30 PM. Scream for its 30th anniversary. Bram Stoker’s Dracula. The Fly for its 40th. The Crow on Devil’s Night. The Evil Dead for its 45th, followed by Evil Dead II at 11 PM, on Halloween night.
Best for: friends, date night, anyone who likes a scare with popcorn.
Scare level: on screen only. Most of these films are rated for adults.
Good to know: Ghost World, Friday, October 2, 9:30 PM. Scream, Friday, October 9, 7:00 PM, then Scream 2 at 9:30 PM. Bram Stoker’s Dracula, Friday, October 16, 6:45 PM, then Fright Night at 9:30 PM. From Beyond, Friday, October 23, 9:30 PM. The Fly, October 23 and Tuesday, October 27. The Crow, Friday, October 30, 9:15 PM. The Evil Dead, Saturday, October 31, 9:00 PM, then Evil Dead II at 11:00 PM. The Hyland has not posted per-film prices on its site. A membership takes $4 off each ticket. A Friday Night Fright Pass was on sale until October 8. 240 Wharncliffe Road South, on hylandcinema.com.

Storybook Gardens and Pumpkins After Dark

1958 Storybook Lane — Springbank Park, west end

Pumpkins After Dark is back at Storybook Gardens in Springbank Park for October. Thousands of carved pumpkins, lit from inside, on a one-kilometre loop you walk after sunset. It is the one October thing most London families do.

What’s there: the lit pumpkin walk. Free parking right out front. Outside food allowed, no barbecues.
Best for: families with kids of any age, and a low-key date.
Scare level: none. Small kids are fine.
Good to know: it runs October 2 to 31, and the ticket calendar also shows October 1. It runs in clusters, not every night. Most Mondays and Tuesdays are dark. General admission is about $23 to $26 for an adult, depending on the night. Kids 3 to 13 are about $20 to $23. Under 3 is free. A family of four is roughly $90 before hot chocolate. Our Pumpkins After Dark 2026 guide has the full cost table, every night it runs and the best slot. 1958 Storybook Lane, on london.pumpkinsafterdark.com.

Fanshawe Pioneer Village and Return to the Abandoned Village

Enter at 1424 Clarke Road — Fanshawe Conservation Area, north-east

Fanshawe Pioneer Village is the 19th-century village inside Fanshawe Conservation Area, in the city’s north-east. For the last half of October, ByronScaryHouse turns five of its historic buildings into a haunt. It is called Return to the Abandoned Village. The village’s own page puts it plainly: this is a sell-out event.

What’s there: a half-kilometre walk through five buildings. Scare actors, gory scenes, jump scares, tight spaces, flashing lights and loud sound. Two daylight afternoons with no scare actors and no strobe lights. Free parking on site.
Best for: teens 14 and up, and adults who want the real thing.
Scare level: high. The village says it is not an event for children. Youth under 18 should come with an adult. The two daylight afternoons are the softer option.
Good to know: it runs October 16 to 18, October 22 to 25 and October 27 to 31. Tickets are $30 plus tax and ticketing fees, or $35 plus tax and fees on Fridays and Saturdays. The daylight walk is $20 plus tax and fees. It runs only on the afternoons of Sunday, October 18 and Sunday, October 25. Entry is between 4:00 and 4:30 PM or 5:00 and 5:30 PM. You get an arrival time and go in within about 30 minutes of it. The path is gravel and uneven. Costumes are fine if you can see. No props, no refunds, no ticket transfers, ten tickets per order. Groups of 20 or more can call 519-457-1296, extension 812. Enter at 1424 Clarke Road. Tickets are on fanshawepioneervillage.ca.

Last year these also ran. Four more London Halloween regulars have not posted 2026 details yet. In 2025 the Somerset Monster House on Somerset Crescent ran three nights in early October, by donation. It had a kid-friendly afternoon. White Oaks Mall ran Fright Oaks, a donation haunted house near the Wellington entrance. It also ran Mall-O-Ween, free trick-or-treating in the mall on Halloween afternoon. The London Children’s Museum ran BOOseum, a ticketed evening that sold out. We do not print last year’s dates as this year’s. When a venue posts its 2026 dates, they belong here.

How do you plan Saturday, October 31 in London?

Reed and Rowan in red Incredibles costumes sorting a candy pile on the kitchen counter, Halloween 2019
Flashback · Reed and Rowan · Halloween 2019

Halloween on a Saturday means daytime and nighttime both matter.

The City of London sets no trick-or-treat hours. Sunset is about 6:15 PM on October 31 this year. The clocks do not go back until the next morning. A porch light on means the house is open. Light off means skip it.

The London Police Service asks for a few things every year. Costumes that fit, so nobody trips. Masks off between houses. Something reflective or a glow stick. An adult with younger kids, a planned route and a return time for older ones. Check the candy at home before anyone eats it. Drivers: slow down, and take driveways slowly.

The City of London adds two more. Keep your own walkway lit and clear. Use LED candles in the pumpkins, not real ones.

After dark on the 31st, adults have three real options in this guide. Specters and Spiritualism at Eldon House, 7 to 10 PM, $16. The last night of Return to the Abandoned Village, $35 plus fees. The Evil Dead and Evil Dead II at the Hyland, 9 and 11 PM.

Before you go

  • Book early: the Abandoned Village. The venue calls it a sell-out. Fridays and Saturdays are the $35 nights.
  • Dress for cold: late October nights in London are often single digits after dark. Every haunt here is outdoors or partly outdoors.
  • Bring cash: gourd painting and the night market are cheap, but not free-with-a-card.
  • Before a long drive: we pulled these from each venue on September 28, but dates and prices can change. A quick check of their page is smart insurance.

Pumpkins after Halloween go in the green bin or with yard waste, or to an EnviroDepot. Take the candle out first. A painted pumpkin goes in the garbage.

Honest takeaway

The best-known event is also the one most likely to be sold out by the time you read this. If you want the Abandoned Village on a Friday or Saturday, book now. If you have kids under 14, skip it and take the free downtown Sunday instead. It is the better day for a family anyway.
